Eastern Eggs

Coming from Balkans where tradition is important, holidays and their celebration is a big thing. I grew up in a village where customs stayed in somewhat original form. On Big Friday my mom and I would always prepare the decoration. The most important event that day was dyeing easter eggs. There is a special way using the natural dye of onion skins and applying plants as stamps. Garden was blossoming and we would pick the prettiest plants and flowers. Every egg would get a unique pattern in shades of beige and brown. I remember this joyous, magical moment of exploring each egg, trying to remember which flower it was that now made a permanent mark on a shell of an egg, becoming a little monument to our garden. As I am not living in my hometown anymore, I am not around our chicken or our garden. What stayed is my sentiment and tradition I carry with me. Instead of a monument of our garden these eggs I create with the help of pigments become monuments of those joyous times.
