but its not made of glass
A fictional birthday installation is created and put into the space of a gallery, inviting the audience with its vivid colors to explore it further. Coming closer, it is revealed that a more direct engagement with the installation is inaccessible, as it is impossible to sit at the table. The only thing left to do is to walk around and explore the installation.
This is a project that started from a research of childhood birthday parties. During the late 90s, our parents made sure to make our birthday celebrations special. As kids, we couldn’t comprehend a wider political picture of events that were happening outside of our house. We enjoyed these gatherings as it was time to party, play and eat overly decorated cakes. Birthdays remained one of the favorite experiences of my childhood. Looking back at this memory, now I can see further than a sweet surface, asking myself what is hiding behind the sugar coating of a naive cake?
